Since 2010, Thorsten Weyer is head of the group 'Requirements Engineering and Conceptual Design' at ‚paluno – The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology‘ at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In close cooperation with leading industrial companies as well as small- and medium-sized companies from the high-tech sector he contributed his special expertise –for many years now– to the development and evaluation of engineering methods for software-intensive systems. His current personal research focus lies on the specification and quality assurance of highly-automated autonomous cyber-physical systems, which are the technological fundament for many future scenarios, like autonomous driving, smart homes and cities, sustainable energy economy and environmental protection as well as Industrie 4.0. Thorsten Weyer has co-authored more than 80 publications and made major contributions to popular textbooks on requirements engineering. As a full member of the International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB) and head of the IREB working group „Requirements Modeling“ he has an important position in the international standardization of the requirements engineering practice.
Thorsten Weyer is on leave from the University of Duisburg-Essen until March 31th, 2020. He currently serves as an acting full professor for computer science at the University of Koblenz-Landau.
