An adaptive system is capable of autonomously adjusting its structure and behavior during operation. This allows it to react to changes in its operating environment, its quality attributes, and its requirements. A simple example is an online shop: Under heavy load, it can deactivate the resource-intensive generation of personalized product recommendations to achieve the required response time.
