New European Key Digital Technologies (KDT) Partnership

Preparations are underway to define the work programme of the Horizon Europe “Key Digital Technologies” (KDT) Partnership. Dr. Andreas Metzger from the paluno working group Software Systems Engineering introduced the recommendations of the European initiative NESSI into the discussions on software and software engineering.

With the Horizon Europe Research Framework Programme (2021-2027) the European Commission has launched ten new European Partnerships to accelerate the transition to a green, climate-neutral, and digital Europe. One of them is “Key Digital Technologies.” The main objective of the public-private partnership is to establish a European leading position in the field of microelectronics, including the software that defines the functioning of the electronic and photonic components (see the European Commission’s announcement). The private part of the partnership is represented by the industry associations AENEAS, ARTEMIS-IA and EPoSS. They are organising workshops from 4 May to 1 June to draw up the Partnership’s first work programme.

Dr. Andreas Metzger was a speaker at the workshop on “Software in ECS based digitisation” and introduced the recommendations of the European technology platform NESSI in his role as Steering Committee Vice Chair. The recommendations focused on three main areas along the entire software lifecycle (Dev-Ops-Adapt): (1) Increase in the degree of automation, (2) Continuous trust management as well as (3) AI and machine learning to handle complexity, dynamics, and uncertainty.
